Great For Sunday School, Lesson Activities, Family Fun, Daily Devotionals
What shall I do to prove I am worthy of God’s blessings?
Hebrews 10:24
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.”
YOUTH GOAL Activity
Good Works Project Planner
OBJECTIVE: Here, youth can plan individual or group service projects or personal goals in all the balanced life areas (Luke 2:52). They can write the PROJECT PLAN, and STEPS, then record how they felt about the project and how they feel about GOOD WORKS.
TO MAKE Print the planner in color or black and white. The youth can plan any goal with this.
ACTIVITY:
This Good Works Project Planner can be used to achieve any goal in the four areas in Luke 2:52
“Jesus increased in wisdom, stature, and favour with God and man.”
Mental, Physical, Spiritual, and Social goals all have “al” at the end, to indicate that all are necessary for a balanced life, to follow Jesus Christ.
Starting with the four areas mentioned above and more, youth can write notes on the above planner and note cards.
Benjamin Franklin used note cards this way, making goal notes. He was famous for planning and improving his life this way. Read, “The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin.” When asked, “What are the 13 virtues of Benjamin Franklin?” His list of 13: Temperance, Silence, Order, Resolution, Frugality, Industry, Sincerity, Justice, Moderation, Cleanliness, Tranquility, Chastity, and Humility.
Benjamin said, “I am perfect, except for one thing; I lack humility.”
Encourage youth to always start their day with humility, and be teachable as they achieve each goal. Benjamin Franklin’s good works: He was a printer, a postmaster, an ambassador, an author, a scientist, an inventor, and a Founding Father of the US Constitution.
Talk about the GOOD WORKS of Jesus and spotlight ways He improved in Luke 2:52 (detailed above and below).
DISCUSSION POINTS (Goals, Jesus Christ’s Example)
• God wants you to learn and to grow. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the perfect example for us in every way. The scriptures teach that in His youth, “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man” (Luke 2:52).
• You can increase—spiritually (favor with God), socially (favor with man), physically (stature), and intellectually (wisdom)!
• You can begin by Discovering the gifts and talents God has given to you. You can pray to learn what those are. You can use those gifts and talents to help others.
• After discovering your talents perhaps you can make a Plan. Continue to pray and ask your family about how to do it. Parents and leaders are a great help.
• After you plan, test it! Act with confidence. Taking small steps, learn through service and activities. Make it fun! Continue to pray for help. Do not be afraid to change your plan. Do not give up!
• Reflect! Think about what you have learned and how it has helped you follow Jesus. Celebrate your wins! Thank your Heavenly Father for His help. Find ways to use what you have learned to serve others. Keep on the path of growth.
• Our ultimate goal is to be like Jesus Christ. You can create a card file with the four categories in the tabs. The cards can be filed behind each area, writing their goals on cards and their personal thoughts. Benjamin Franklin in his Autobiography tells how did this. His most famous saying was, “Well done is better than well said.” You can also create a poster or chalk board with the four areas in four corners listing your discoveries, plans, actions, and reflections.
• Keeping your goals SMART helps to not get discouraged. Your goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound.
In Bible Busy Bee we will have many YOUTH GOAL PLANNERS like the one above to help them achieve.

INTELLECTUAL Goal Ideas:
• A girl with potential decided to get a job in her field of study. Then, when she finished her education she had work experience. GREAT IDEA!

“Jesus increased in … stature”
PHYSICAL Goal Ideas:
• Learning to cook, learn how to care for your home, learn how to care for your body, how to take care of your own things, learn how to strengthen your body, learn an art skill, play and enjoy the outdoors, prepare for emergencies, share your talents!
“Jesus increased … in favour with God”
SPIRITUAL Goal Ideas:
• Memorize a favorite scripture weekly, improve your prayers, thank your Heavenly Father daily listing the gifts and blessings you have received, learn how to keep the Sabbath Day holy, serve someone daily, work on your family history, teach a gospel concept to a friend, sing!
“Jesus increased in favour with … man”

FINAL GOAL PEP TALK:
• ENTHUSIASM. Think about it, “Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” ~ Winston Churchill. Now “Enthus” is a Greek word meaning God or spirit within. It’s an expression of excitement. So, if you pray about your goals daily you can have this added energy to achieve your goals!
• LEARNING. Compare yourself to the disciples of Jesus who were learning about the Savior and His great power; learning how to navigate the storms of life (that we can learn from). When the storms came and after the sea was calmed by the Savior (Mark 4:39 “peace be still”), they may have said, “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.” — Amy March, from Little Women
