LESSON LIFESAVER
New Testament books reading chart bookmark
OBJECTIVE: Use this two-sided bookmark and reading chart to help youth memorize the books of the New Testament in order. Each time they read the scriptures they can say, “I will be valiant and follow Jesus.”
TO MAKE: Print in color on lightweight paper, cut out, and glue back-to-back. If you print in black and white, don’t color the write boxes. This is where they color in or check off chapters read. Do not laminate this bookmark as they will need to check off boxes. Paper punch a hole at the top and tie on several strands of yarn or ribbon.
ACTIVITY:
Search and ponder these scriptures and underline them using the bookmark as a ruler. Youth can fill in the circles representing the chapters read.
THOUGHT TREAT: Read for Seeds of Faith Cookies. Make round sugar cookies and cut them in half (before or right after baking before they cool) to look like watermelon slices. Frost with red frosting and green on the rounded edge to look like melon rind. Place small chocolate chips on the rounded edge inside the rind.
—Tell the youth that each time we read the New Testament and other scriptures about Jesus we are planting seeds of faith. Look at the bookmark and think of each chapter read and marked off as a seed of faith you planted in your heart today.
DISCUSSION POINTS (Scriptures, Jesus Christ, Valiant)
• The teachings of Jesus are a great treasure; they help me to be valiant in His service.
• His words give me faith and power; they help me know how to live and be happy.
• A valiant person has the courage to defend truth and righteousness.
• I can call upon the Lord for the strength to be valiant.
• We cannot endure on borrowed light. We must seek for the testimony of Jesus and cleave to it that we do not stumble and fall.
• As I am valiant, true, loyal, and love all of God’s children, I can be confident I am on the right path.
• As I walk in holiness before Jesus and give heed to his commandments, He will keep the powers of darkness from me. Help youth memorize:
All the Water in the World
All the water in the world,
However hard it tried,
Could never sink the smallest ship
Unless it gets inside.
And all the evil in the world,
The blackest kind of sin,
Can never hurt you the least bit
Unless you let it in.
