OBJECTIVE: To help youth have a desire to sing sacred hymns as they worship Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. See the lesson on Emma Selects Sacred Hymns (below).

ACTIVITY: “Note”able Hymns Secret Code Message
- Using the codebreaker, have youth find the hidden messages that tell us the kinds of blessings we receive from singing hymns.
ANSWERS: Strengthen our faith, teach the gospel, help us want to repent, help us choose the right, make us feel happy, and help to give us good thoughts. - Sing “Wise Man and Foolish Man” Children’s Songbook 281 (see below*). This song reflects the decisions (answers) in the above activity, e.g., “good thoughts,” “choose the right,” and “repent.” Tell youth, this might be a great song to sing along with more below, like “Choose the Right” Hymnal 239 (below*) and more. TO MAKE: Print or copy, color, and cut out the Secret Code Message.
THOUGHT TREAT: Note Cookies. Frost a music note on each cookie then sing your favorite gospel song.
TESTIMONY: Share your testimony of the importance of singing hymns, and express your ideas about the blessings that can come from righteous hymn singing. Tell the children that Heavenly Father loves to hear us sing. Encourage the children to participate joyfully in hymn singing, at Church meetings and on their own.
