Resurrection Miracles match game
YOUTH can teach this lesson to children.
Objective: Children/youth will learn about the miracle of the Resurrection with this Resurrection Miracles—Match Game. They will learn that through His Resurrection, Jesus made it possible for us to be resurrected and made new again. We celebrate it in the spring, which also represents a new beginning, new life.
TO MAKE VISUALS: Print, Copy, color, and cut out the match cards with two-part stories that follow. Laminate and cut out.
ACTIVITY:
1. Talk to children/youth about the Resurrection of Jesus, and tell them that because of Jesus’s Resurrection, we will all receive a perfect body. Sometimes in this life, we suffer physical difficulties, but through Christ’s Resurrection, everything about our bodies will be restored to its perfect form when we are resurrected. Read and talk about:
• Psalm 25:11 in the King James Version says, “Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake.” “Quicken” means to revive or make alive.
More Scriptures (below).
2. Tell children they are going to learn about those who have lived on the earth and passed on. They are now in the grave, but we have hope that because of Jesus’s Resurrection, they will live again.
3. Mount the match cards on the board with the first part of the card/story on the left and the second part of the card/story on the right. Have children take turns finding matching cards by matching up the body part and reading the story. Two children can team up and do this, each one reading their part of the card (with the child who retrieved the card on the left of the board reading his first).
4. Talk about each situation and how nice it will be when we can all be resurrected. If there is time, have children share stories of loved ones who have passed and why they will be happy when they are resurrected.
THOUGHT TREAT: Miracle Munchies. Have some special healthy treats to represent the good food we eat while we are alive. Once we die we don’t eat. Then, once we are resurrected to live again, we can munch on these munchies once again. Isn’t that a miracle?
DISCUSSION POINTS (Scriptures, Jesus Christ)
• Easter is not about bunnies but lambs. Anciently, First Born Lambs without blemish were sacrificed as a symbol of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
• John the Revelator referred to Jesus as the “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8).
• Peter explains we were redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world” (1Peter 1:18-20).
• John the Baptist pointed to Christ and said to His disciples, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).
• This great sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His resurrection from the tomb makes it possible for all of us to live again. We will gain our whole and complete body again (illustrated in the activity above). “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:30).
• “But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:7).
That Easter Morn
That Easter morn, a grave that burst
Proclaimed to man that “Last and First”
Had ris’n again
And conquered pain.
This morn renews for us that day
When Jesus cast the bonds away,
Took living breath
And conquered death.
Thus we in gratitude recall
And give our love and pledge our all,
Shed grateful tear
And conquer fear.
