LESSON LIFESAVER Activity

FAITHFUL FOOTSTEPS flip chart

Bible Lesson ACTIVITY: Faithful Footsteps flip chart (5 ways to follow Jesus)

OBJECTIVE: Help youth understand that the gospel of Jesus Christ is eternal and is based on truths that will help us gain eternal life. This gift must be earned by following in His steps. Here’s why:
– Resurrection means living forever with an immortal body, which is a free gift for everyone, because He gave His life for us that all may live (again).
– Eternal life goes much further: it is a state of exaltation in the highest heaven, where you live in God’s presence and share His divine qualities.

Luke 18:18-28 tells the story of the rich man who asked how he could receive eternal life.

Read the story and help the youth to understand what Jesus told the man. Explain how we must be willing to leave everything behind as we follow the Savior.

TO MAKE. Print and cut out the Faithful Footsteps goal flip-chart for each youth. Glue cards together placing the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth chart behind the first so that footsteps show below each chart (with Faithful Footstep Flip Chart at the top).

ACTIVITY. Have the children write things they can do on each chart to keep that commandment. Remind them that each step helps them to follow in the footsteps of Christ. Read and explain this and the REWARDS* (below); and remind them of the reason we follow Jesus Christ:

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

THOUGHT TREAT Follow Footsteps Cookies.

DISCUSSION & Flip-Chart Activity:

–       Ask youth, “What do you think it means to ‘endure to the end?’” Start by flipping the chart and writing what you will do to follow Jesus.

–       As they flip the chart they can write their goals – reviewing the rewards for following Jesus.

WHY FOLLOW JESUS? John 15:10-11 “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love… that your joy might be full.”

WHY FOLLOW JESUS? John 15:10-11 “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love… that your joy might be full.”
*Review the REWARDS:

#1 Pray to Heavenly Father: Helps build faith and trust in God and comforts in times of distress and need.

Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”

#2 Serve Others: As God loves every person on this earth, we too can love everyone. We then feel happy and close to Heavenly Father.

John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”

When you show love or service to someone, it blesses and brings happiness to THREE distinct people: (1) The person receiving the service; (2) The person performing the service; and (3) The observer, our Heavenly Father.

#3 Attend Church: Helps us learn to serve and renew our promises to Jesus to live like Him.

Matthew 18:20 Jesus Christ promised, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

#4 Read Scriptures: By learning about Jesus and His gospel, we can learn ways to be happy.

Matthew 22:29 “Jesus … said …, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

2 Timothy 3:15-16 “… the holy scriptures … make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus … for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

#5 Choose the Right: Obeying God brings lasting joy (rather than the misery that follows sin).

Psalm 84:11 declares, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Obey God and show your love.

1 John 2:3, 6.  We are able to “walk, even as he walked” as we “keep his commandments.”

It is easier to walk in someone’s footsteps as we learn to learn about them, love them, and trust they know the way.
