PONDER THIS PUZZLE.

As this is a puzzle, think about how the people were PUZZLED about who to follow. Do they follow their friends and family who did not believe there would be a flood? Or, do they follow God’s prophet, Noah, who was warning them to repent? Remember, Noah was building a ship to save his own family from the flood.

They didn’t believe so they were not prepared when the rains came. They couldn’t swim for 40 days and 40 nights, so what happened to them? You guessed it. They were drowned. So, are we going to follow God’s prophets who teach us about God’s laws and warn us? Or, laugh and think we know better and suffer the consequences? Each time we see a rainbow we can remember how good God is to us and that we can choose to follow Him and His prophets.

DISCUSSION POINTS (Obedience, Noah)

• Ask the children about different signs they have seen. (stop signs, railroad crossing signs, poison signs, etc.) What could happen if you did not obey a sign?

• Signs help us to be safe. They warn us of danger.

• God wants us to be safe from the evil and temptations of the world.

• God has given us His words through His prophets, like Noah, in the scriptures, to warn and teach us how to keep safe.

• The people in Noah’s day were very wicked. God told Noah to build an ark. He was going to send a flood. Genesis 6:5-7

• Tell the children that Noah was obedient to God even though his friends and neighbors made fun of him. Help them understand that because Noah’s family listened and obeyed his teachings, they were saved from the Flood. The wicked people who would not listen and obey were drowned in the flood as it rained for more than 40 days and 40 nights and covered the whole earth.

• Noah was a good man. He obeyed God in all things. He knew he could build the ark because God commanded it. (Genesis 6:9, 22) What qualities can you develop to be ready to do hard things?

• What happened to Noah’s family when they obeyed Noah? Genesis 7:1,7

• What happened to those who did not obey Noah? Genesis 7:23

• What can happen to us when we do not listen to God and obey his prophets?

• Explain to the children that our thoughts can determine our actions. It can be difficult to control our thoughts if we give in to temptation. So it is important to be careful of what we read, the movies we see, and other kinds of entertainment.

• It is better to fill our minds with virtuous and lovely thoughts. We should seek after these things. Philippians 4:8 “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

• What was the special promise God made to Noah after the flood was over? Genesis 9:12-15

JUST FOR FUN BIBLE SCRIPTURE CHASE:

• How many of each clean beast were taken on the ark? (Genesis 7:2.) (Note: A clean beast was one that the people were allowed to eat.)
• How many days and nights did it rain? (Genesis 7:12.)
• How old was Noah when the flood came? (Genesis 7:6.)
• How many of each unclean beast were taken on the ark? (Genesis 7:2.) (Note: An unclean beast was one that the people were forbidden to eat.)
• How many days did the waters prevail on the earth? (Genesis 7:24.)
• How many days was Noah on the ark before it started to rain? (Genesis 7:10.)

 ADDITIONAL BIBLE SCRIPTURES:

• Genesis 6:19
“And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.”

Genesis 7:7; 12
“And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.” (vs. 12) “And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.”
